Specialized dogs help in the search, apprehension and detection of criminals and suspects.
Specialized dogs in Chernivtsi help the soldiers of the “Kord” special unit of the National Police Service in Chernivtsi region in special operations to apprehend criminals.
Dogs working in this department are brothers on the mother’s line. By breed, they are Belgian shepherds. They have two dogs, according to the canine specialist, whose name we cannot reveal.
“Dogs specialize in searching for, detaining, and identifying suspects – people who have committed criminal offenses. We have two dogs: one is two years old, the other is almost five. The training process for them began from the day we took the dogs as hostages,” says a soldier of the Kord special unit.
One of the unit’s dogs won the highest award in the “Four-legged defenders” competition. He has been in the unit for four years.
“All our dogs work equally well: both my dog and my colleague’s. We don’t work for awards, we just do our job. The dog is mine, and I am mine.”
Fighters say that during the training process, one of the main tasks is the socialization of the dog. Therefore, these quadrupeds are not afraid of heights, darkness, closed rooms and sharp sounds. He says that the dog must always walk and play with them everywhere. In addition, at every outing, regardless of whether a dog is needed or not, he must be present.
“We consider them not just dogs, but employees. Just more controlled than us. In order for him to perform better, he must be a member of the group.”
